The Rector

Archdeacon John Alexander Matheson is a native of St. Stephen and was raised at nearby Little Ridge, the sixth of ten children. He began his formal education in the one room schoolhouse at Lower Little Ridge and after graduation from St. Stephen High School, attended the University of King’s College, Halifax (B.A. Hons. 1977) and Harvard Divinity School (M.Div. 1980).While in the Boston area, he received field training at St. John the Evangelist Church, Beacon Hill and All Saints Church, Ashmont, in the Dorchester section of the city.Ordained deacon in his home parish in 1980 and priest at Christ Church Cathedral in 1981, he served first as assistant curate and later as rector of the Parish of Derby and Blackville.After pursuing graduate studies in Classics at Dalhousie University in the mid 1980’s, he was appointed rector of the Parish of Kingston in 1988. In 1995 he became rector of the Parish of St. Andrews. In 1996 he was installed as a Canon of Christ Church Cathedral and has served two terms as Regional Dean of St. Andrews, has been a member of Diocesan Council and has served as an examining Chaplain to the Bishop of Fredericton.In October, 2014 John was appointed Archdeacon of St. Andrews for a three-year term. In addition to his duties as rector of St. Andrews, Archdeacon Matheson is also priest-in-charge of the Parish of St. David & St. Patrick, with churches in Elmsville (Christ Church) and the Bay Road (St. David’s).Archdeacon Matheson is chair of the Atlantic Theological Conference Committee, which holds annual conferences in the three Maritime Provinces. He serves on the board of St. Peter Publications and is a founding editor of A Canadian Church Calendar, published by St. Peter Publications.He has spoken extensively on behalf of the Prayer Book Society of Canada and has conducted missions and retreats in various parishes.A past chair of the Charlotte County Archives board of directors, he has a keen interest in local history and has an extensive collection of books prints and photos relating to Charlotte County.He and his wife Ellen have five children and three grandchildren and make their home in the rectory in St. Andrews.


Anglican Church Women  (ACW)

The Choir

The All Saints Anglican Church Choir is comprised of 15-20 men and women who specialize in songs from the Hymn Book of the Anglican Church of Canada and The Book of Common Praise supplemented by The Complete Mission Praise.Their voices and the music they share can be heard from September to July at the regular 11:00 am Sunday service. Additionally, they rehearse and perform for various seasonal and special occasions.

Nursery and Sunday School

The Sunday School operates from September to June. Children attend the first part of the regular Sunday morning service at 11 o’clock; following the children’s hymn, they leave for classes in the Parish Hall. The Superintendent is assisted by teachers and assistants in program delivery.
